NUESTRO PAPAEl nuevo Papa es estadounidense-peruano (nació en Chicago, IL el 14 de Septiembre de 1955) hijo de madre española y padre francés. Religioso agustino. Realizó gran parte de su ministerio como misionero en Perú. Se nacionalizó peruano en el 2015 al ser nombrado obispo de Chiclayo. Tomó el nombre de Leo XIV. Su antecesor con este nombre, Leon XIII, escribió la primera enciclica de justicia social llamada Rerum Novarum. “Tenemos que buscar juntos ser una Iglesia misionera. Una Iglesia que construye puentes y dialoga”, dijo en su primer discurso. Llamó a la iglesia católica a ser una iglesia “sinodal”, “que va adelante y que busca siempre la paz y estar cerca de los que sufren”. "En Aquel que es Uno, somos uno", es su lema episcopal. Habla inglés, español, italiano y portugués. Tambien lee latín y aleman. -
OUR POPEThe new Pope is an American-Peruvian (born in Chicago, IL on September 14, 1955), the son of a Spanish mother and a French father. He is an Augustinian religious. He spent much of his ministry as a missionary in Peru. He became a Peruvian citizen in 2015 when he was appointed Bishop of Chiclayo. He took the name of Leo XIV. His predecessor with this name, Leo XIII, wrote the first encyclical on social justice, Rerum Novarum. “We must seek together to be a missionary Church. A Church that builds bridges and engages in dialogue,” he said in his first address. He called the Catholic Church to be a “synodal” Church, “one that moves forward and always seeks peace and to be close to those who suffer.” “In Him who is One, we are one” is his episcopal motto. He speaks English, Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese. He also reads Latin and German. -
